Tara and her husband, Ricky, are Johnson County natives, having lived most of their lives in the Godley area. They have two sons: Rhett and Riley, and one daughter: Trinity. Tara graduated from TCU with a degree in business management. She attended Purvis Real Estate School and continues to attend classes to keep her knowledge of the real estate industry current.
She and Ricky are involved in several community and sports organizations and are active members of the First Baptist Church in Godley. Tara serves as the vice-president of the Godley Chamber of Commerce and serves on the board of the Johnson County United Way.
